Aliya C. Roginiel, M.D., MPH

Dr. Aliya C. Roginiel joined Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.C. after completing her fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the Shiley Eye Institute of the University of California, San Diego. She completed her Ophthalmology residency training at Northwell Health Eye Institute in Great Neck, NY and served as Chief Resident in her final year. In addition to managing general pediatric eye conditions as well as pediatric and adult strabismus, she is skilled in comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. She has experience with astigmatism-correcting intraocular lens implants, femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery, and MIGS including iStent.

Originally from Connecticut, she completed her undergraduate studies at Fairfield University. She then graduated with her MPH in Chronic Disease Epidemiology from the Yale School of Public Health and her MD from the Yale School of Medicine. She is an active member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Passionate about advocacy, she has lobbied on Capitol Hill for federal vision research funding, prior authorization reform and Pediatric subspecialty loan forgiveness. She is active in clinical research, with her most recent project involving creation of 3D models from MRI data to enhance understanding of strabismus management. She enjoys teaching medical students and residents and was awarded the position of Teaching Associate during residency.

Since her time as an undergraduate, Dr. Roginiel has been involved in international health as a volunteer with Operation Smile and as a Wilbur Downs fellow of the Yale School of Public Health where she traveled to Kingston, Jamaica to study pediatric infectious disease. She is connected with Orbis International, a flying eye-hospital that provides free eye care to underdeveloped countries and training programs to local ophthalmologists.

In her free time, Dr. Roginiel enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and pilates. A former member of the New Haven Ballet company, she also keeps up with adult classes. While at home, she also enjoys cooking and baking and has previously taken coursework at the International Culinary Center in New York.
